Umbrella provides easy, trusted help to homeowners 65+ by matching them with vetted community members – Umbrella Neighbors – who can help with odd jobs at the affordable rate of $20/hour (including jobs such as changing a light bulb, installing an AC, fixing a leaky faucet, and home organizing) Umbrella Neighbors can also provide companionship for a loved one by stopping by to play cards or games or to take a walk. Umbrella has been operating on Long Island for almost two years and just expanded to Northern New Jersey.
NJSave, a new online application to help older residents with low-incomes and individuals with disabilities to save money on Medicare premiums, prescription costs, and other living expenses. Savings Programs, which help eligible individuals pay their Medicare premiums and co-pays; New Jersey’s Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD), which helps save money on prescription drug costs; and the Lifeline Utility Assistance Program. Prior to this, individuals had to fill out a paper eligibility application for each program.

Access Link: Services for Persons with Disabilities. Access Link is a public transportation service developed to comply with the paratransit regulations of the ADA and is for people with disabilities who are unable to use the local NJ TRANSIT fixed route bus service. In order to use Access Link, you must first apply for eligibility and reservations are required. Access Link service is comparable to the bus in that it is a curb to curb service, charges a fare and is available during the same days and hours as the regularly scheduled local fixed route bus service, including weekends and holidays. If there is NJ TRANSIT bus service available, Access Link service will be available. If there is no NJ TRANSIT bus service, Access Link will not be available.

Caregiver Support Group - Barnabas Health Hospice & Palliative Care Center
Barnabas Health Hospice hosts a free monthly caregiver workshop titled, Care for the Caregiver: A Time for You. The program is held the first Wednesday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Barnabas Health Hospice offices, located at 95 Old Short Hills Road in West Orange. Registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to drop in any time during the 60-minute session.

Cooking Companions is a year-long program serving Seniors in Essex County.
Volunteers make monthly visits to their assigned older adult at their home.
Volunteers purchase and deliver food, help prepare, and share the meal with the older adult
JFS social workers will provide supervision and training.
All food costs will be covered by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
